I. Basic Information
Source : Dried mature seeds of Rosaceae apricots, Siberian apricots, northeastern apricots or apricots (bitter almonds, northern almonds), which are different from sweet almonds (southern almonds). The content of amygdalin in bitter almonds is much higher than that in sweet almonds.

（1）Proportion extract: 10:1, 20:1 (Total extract powder, containing amygdalin + polyphenol oil)

（3）Extraction process: Water extraction/ethanol reflux extraction → filtration and concentration → spray drying; For individual products, additional purification and recrystallization processes are added
Storage : Keep sealed, light-proof, cool and dry. The shelf life is generally 24 months。
Ii.application area
（1）Pharmaceutical raw materials (Chinese herbal decoction pieces, Chinese patent medicines)
The raw materials included in the pharmacopoeia are used in traditional Chinese patent medicines for cough relief. When used as medicine, it requires processing (detoxification processing) , which destroys the endogenous enzymes in bitter almonds through heating to reduce the release of hydrocyanic acid when taken; The dosage prescribed in the pharmacopoeia is 3 to 6 grams. Do not exceed this amount
（2）Cosmetics (for external use only)
Bitter almond extract contains benzaldehyde, fatty acids and polyphenols. It is used in skin care products: soothing and anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and keratin conditioning. Cosmetics for external use do not equal oral use. It is strictly prohibited to take cosmetic-grade extracts internally.
（3）Flavors and fragrances.
Benzaldehyde has an almond aroma. Bitter almond extract can be used as a natural almond flavor ingredient (with strictly controlled cyanide residue).
（4）“Health supplement raw materials (strictly restricted).
Domestic control over cyanogenic glycosides is strict, and they cannot be used as ordinary food raw materials at will. Strict cyanide residue testing is required for raw materials of health products exported.
Iii.Distinction: Bitter almond extract vs. sweet almond extract
Bitter almond extract: High in amygdalin, with potential cyanide risk; It mainly features medicinal cough suppressants and spices. It tastes bitter.
Sweet almond extract: Amygdalin is extremely low and has very little toxicity. It is mostly used in food and skin care, and is safer to consume
The core marker of bitter almond extract is amygdalin, which is a traditional Chinese medicine raw material for relieving cough and asthma, and also has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities. However, it is a slightly toxic
cyanogenic glycoside extract. It must not be taken orally at will with high-purity monomers, and one should not be swayed by anti-cancer claims. The standards for external cosmetic grade and pharmaceutical grade products are completely different, and their uses cannot be mixed.
