Grapefruit (Citrus paradisi Macfad.) is a fruit belonging to the genus Citrus of the Rutaceae family and is also known as pomelo. Its peel shows an uneven orange or red color. When ripe, the flesh turns pale yellowish-white or pink, tender and juicy, with a refreshing taste and a hint of aroma. The acidity is slightly strong, and some varieties also have a bitter and numbing flavor. Imported grapefruits mainly come from places such as South Africa, Israel and Taiwan of China.
Pomelo has relatively high temperature requirements. The average annual temperature in the planting area should be above 18°C. It can be grown in places where the annual accumulated temperature exceeds 60°C, and high-quality fruits can be obtained when the temperature is above 70°C. Compared with lemons, grapefruits are more cold-resistant and can withstand extreme weather conditions with a minimum temperature of approximately -10°C. It cannot grow in places below -8°C. Therefore, when choosing a planting site, one should select a place with suitable temperature or adopt greenhouse cultivation to minimize the impact of temperature on its growth. In addition to having strict requirements for temperature, pomelo has strong adaptability in other aspects. It is not very particular about soil, but prefers loose, deep, fertile soil that is neutral to slightly acidic. The demand for rainfall is not high. It can be planted in places with an annual rainfall of over 1000mm, and is suitable for both humid and dry climate conditions. Pomelo can also grow and bear fruit well in a sunny environment.
