Trump announced that he would impose a 100% tariff on China, effective from November 1st!

US President Trump said on Friday that starting from November 1, the United States will impose a new 100% tariff on all goods imported from China, and said that this rate is “much higher than any tariff level currently paid by China.”

Trump also announced that the US would impose export controls on “all key software” on the same day.

According to foreign media reports, the average tariff on Chinese goods in the United States is currently about 57%. If this tax increase is implemented, the US tariffs on China will rise above 150%.

Trump posted on his social media platform “Truth Social” : “We have just learned that China has taken an extremely tough stance on trade issues and sent a highly confrontational letter to the world, claiming that it plans to impose large-scale export controls on almost all Chinese-made products and even some non-Chinese-made goods starting from November 1, 2025.”

He wrote: “Given China’s unprecedented position and the fact that this tariff only represents the United States, starting from November 1, 2025 (or earlier, depending on China’s subsequent actions), a 100% tariff will be imposed on all Chinese goods exported to the United States. This tariff rate is much higher than the current standard.”

Hours before this statement, Trump had threatened to “significantly raise” tariffs on Chinese imports as a response to the new control measures on rare earth exports to China. According to statistics, approximately 70% of the global supply of rare earth minerals comes from China. These resources play a crucial role in high-tech industries such as automobiles, defense, and semiconductors.

Trump’s recent imposition of tariffs has led many netizens to comment, “The US is making things difficult for China in all kinds of ways, but it can’t bear to see others retaliate.” However, for cross-border sellers, once the tariff policy is implemented, they will face a huge increase in costs. Under the current ups and downs of US tariffs, sellers should gradually expand into other markets to avoid risks!

China has always firmly believed that dialogue and consultation are the correct way to resolve trade differences. Although Trump’s tariff threats are tough, China will not be intimidated and will not fall into the vicious circle of “an eye for an eye”. China will continue to maintain an open and inclusive attitude and is willing to negotiate with the United States on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, but will never make concessions on issues of principle. If the US side really implements the measure of imposing additional tariffs, China will surely take forceful measures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests, and the ultimate outcome will only be a lose-lose situation for both sides. Trump should be clear that bluffing won’t solve the problem. Only by returning to the negotiating table and finding a solution acceptable to both sides through rational communication can he be responsible for the economies of China, the United States and even the world.
